【 Australia】 Official Release of the New Standard AS/NZS 62368.1:2026

To ensure product safety and align with the latest international technical standards, Standards Australia officially released the latest standard, AS/NZS 62368.1:2026 “Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment — Part 1: Safety requirements,” on March 6, 2026.

The release of this standard will significantly impact electronic products sold in the Australian and New Zealand markets. Below is a summary of the key points

Core Regulatory Requirements The new version of the standard is fully harmonized with the international standard IEC 62368-1:2023 (Edition 4.0). All regulated audio/video, information, and communication technology equipment sold in the Australian market must comply with these latest safety requirements.

 

Technical Standards and Specifications

Standard Correspondence: AS/NZS 62368.1:2026 is harmonized from the international standard IEC 62368-1:2023 (Edition 4.0).

Previous Version Correspondence: The previous version, AS/NZS 62368.1:2022, corresponded to IEC 62368-1:2018 (Edition 3.0).

Important Timeline and Transition Period

Release and Effective Date: Officially released and effective immediately on March 6, 2026.

 

Parallel Transition Period: To assist the industry with smooth implementation and adoption, the new version of the standard and the previous version (AS/NZS 62368.1:2022) will run in parallel, providing a three-year transition period.

Mandatory Implementation Requirements: After the transition period ends, authorities will only accept certification applications accompanied by test reports based on the new standard (AS/NZS 62368.1:2026).

 

Handling of Existing Certificates

Existing certificates previously issued under the old standard (AS/NZS 62368.1:2022) will remain valid throughout their original validity period until they expire.
